Canned sardines are some of the best canned fish due to their low mercury content, relatively low cost and many health benefits. Canned sardines contain significant amounts of omega-3 fatty acids, calcium and vitamin D. To maximize the health benefits, try to source sardines packed in water as they are the lowest in sodium and lower in overall fat than those packed in oil; aim to consume sardines about twice a week.
